Singapore’s only prestigious photography award is here again. The ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu is Singapore’s first-of-its-kind juried award aimed at recognising the artistic achievements of photographers in Singapore. Back for the second year, this year’s public profile exhibition showcases the crème de la crème of Singapore’s arts and photography society. The eight nominees this year include: John Clang, Ang Song Nian, Zhao Renhui, Tay Wei Leng, Sean Lee, Genevieve Chua, Wee Kheng Li and Chua Chye Teck, all of whom have held exhibitions both locally and internationally.
Winner of ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu 2011 will be announced in June. Winner will receive a S$30,000 in prize money, the largest amount of money to be awarded to a local photographer. The award recipient will also be presented with the opportunity to showcase their work in an art book as well as an all-expense paid trip to Cognac, France. The other two finalists will each receive S$8,000 in recognition for their talents.
The eight shortlisted nominees were nominated by Singapore’s notable figures in the arts and photography community. They are Emmeline Yong, Partner of Objectifs Centre for Photography & Filmmaking; Milenko Prvacki, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at LaSalle College of the Arts; Dr Eugene Tan, Programme Director (Special Projects) at the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB); Seng Yu Jin, Curator at The National Art Gallery Singapore; as well as Sherman Ong, photographer and filmmaker, and winner of the inaugural ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu competition held last year.
