Gillman Barracks celebrates its fourth anniversary this weekend with a multitude of open house events. Its signature Art After Dark event will be on this Friday evening on 23 September, while Art Day Out! will continue with the festivities on Saturday afternoon 24 September.
Supermama Porcelain Festival: Inspired and influenced by the porcelain culture in Arita, Japan, the Festival will introduce porcelain as a medium in the design of giftware, homeware and objet d’art. It will feature porcelain works from Japanese as well as local ceramicists and designers. Supermama will also launch Supermama Design Mart x Arita Porcelain Deadstock Sale as part of the celebrations.
Art Outreach will be collaborating with OIC (Organisation of Illustrators Council) to illustrate visitors’ portraits in a special after dark session (7.30pm – 10.30pm, 23 September).
Volunteer docents from the Friends of the Museums (FOMs) will lead Art & History and History & Heritage Tours that will uncover exciting art works in a selection of the galleries, with a dose of the Barracks’ history. The Art & History tour will also include a special chance to preview the studio of Zai Kuning, the artist representing Singapore at the 57th Venice Biennale.
Art Day Out!: Saturday 24 September: 2pm to 7pm
By Car: Some parking is available onsite. When carparks are full, visitors can park at Alexandra Retail Centre opposite Gillman Barracks.
