Singapore Contemporary Art Show, a major new contemporary art fair will be held in Singapore January 21 – 24, 2016, at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre. The show, to be known as Singapore Contemporary, is an important addition to Singapore’s vibrant and growing art scene. Held at the same time as Art Stage Singapore and a week of gallery presentations and public projects, Singapore Contemporary showcases the missing and much desired mid-tier art market with works ranging from S$10,000 to S$100,000 and up.
“Singapore is rapidly building a reputation as the principal art hub in Southeast Asia and a week of art events kick-off of the ‘art year’ across Asia,” explained Douwe Cramer, Show Director. “The world’s renowned art hubs such as New York, Miami, Basel, London and Hong Kong host a large number of art fairs over a one or two week period each year, serving the specific interests of their art markets. Singapore Contemporary will be a game changer, to add diversity to Singapore’s art market during an important period of the year and will complement other art events and projects held in the city at the same time.”
Singapore Contemporary will focus exclusively on quality contemporary artwork and installations. The scope includes original paintings, limited editions, sculpture and photography, and also video and digital art from some of the world’s most interesting and promising artists – from emerging and mid-career artists, to those who have already achieved recognition in private and public collections, and at auction.
The inaugural edition of Singapore Contemporary will feature two special art projects. “Artist Dialogues” comprises a curated series of solo artist exhibits by a gallery or artist. This will provide the opportunity for collectors and art buyers to meet the artist, allowing for conversations that share insights and inspirations for the works featured.
“China Encounters” offers a series of presentations by selected galleries from across China. Many of the exhibited artists are accomplished in China, but have only occasionally been seen overseas. Singapore Contemporary will showcase these ground-breaking Chinese gallery exhibits that focus on works from some of the most talked about and promising talent, and also importantly those with investment potential.
Singapore Contemporary is organised by the same company behind the popular Asia Contemporary Art Show, held twice yearly in Spring and Fall in Hong Kong since 2012. The organiser also produces Asia Contemporary Art Buyer (www.asiacontemporaryart.com), a leading art website for the region.
At the same time as launching Singapore Contemporary, the organiser also announced that all art galleries in Singapore can now apply to feature their works on Asia Contemporary Art Buyer (www.asiacontemporaryart.com) with no fees or commissions.
“We are delighted to offer Singapore-based galleries this opportunity and collectors the opportunity to browse and buy from the site, already hosting more than 5,000 artworks from 900 artists around the world, and with traffic and inquiries showing strong growth each quarter,” said Cramer.
Exhibitor application forms for Singapore Contemporary can be downloaded at www.asiacontemporaryart.com or on request at [email protected].
