Singapore – INSTINC SOHO presents There is no place, like home…, showcasing new works by our INSTINC AIR Lio Cheung (Hong Kong).
The independent Hong Kong-based Artist Lio Cheung questions herself ‘What is the home meant to be?’ as a Hongkonger, there seem to be limitations by certain social issues; ‘We work hard. We are also living so hard! There is so much difficulty to owning an apartment or even just to rent a room cause it almost drains out their salary!’ Cheung mentioned.
At that point, the artist researched about the people’s mentality of longing for a place called ‘Home’. Cheung tried to collect data from different points of views about ‘What is Home means to be?’ from all around Singapore and Hong Kong (and from the worldwide web) during her stay. By using her customised unique word formula that transforms the words and comments into visualised diagrams painting.
About Lio Cheung – An independent artist based in Hong Kong, with a background in Fine Art (RMIT University) and Fashion Design (University of Salford), Cheung draws most of her inspiration from keen observations of nature, culture, and daily interactions with people around her.
In her artwork, she weaves and incorporates different materials and medium, composing her thoughts and insights not only into inanimate objects and forms, but also in live performances which encourages interaction and provides the audience with food for thought.

About INSTINC SOHO – Established in 2004, INSTINC is an artist-run institution that promotes a new language of art. Following the tradition of painting, INSTINC has pushed the paradigm to realize a wide array of art forms, including but not limited to installation, performance and video art. One of INSTINC’s key missions is to encourage collaboration, cultural exchange and sharing of ideas in contemporary art with local as well as international artists. Therefore in 2009, INSTINC’s international artist residency program is launched. INSTINC aims to establish an exciting platform where artists and public can engage with contemporary art and critical discourses.
