What They Said is a showcase of works from the Eunice’s journey in BigCi creative residencies in Bilpin, Sydney, Australia. The artist’s new works inquires from the reflections of nature upon the system of society. Nature sets an orientation to present what is sought after in the everyday. Yet in a preoccupied system, the act to listen is almost impenetrable.

Trees teach us about the system of nature — through time, history and intervention. There is a spiritual presence that goes beyond the sight. A presence in which trees appear to be communicating messages to mankind. The act to listen increases as its density towards its surrounding; for instance the rustling of trees in the forest and the urban sounds of the cityscape. Though the atmosphere is felt differently, they reflect similar sensitivities in the environment they embody.

The works in this exhibition aspired to capture the vast manifestation of nature’s presence through installation, sculptures & paintings. Dwelling Place desires to capture that vast manifestation through an installation of blue eucalyptus tree barks. The colour of the Blue Mountains is a result of the vast forests of eucalypts, which in the hot sun discharge a fine mist of eucalyptus oil from their leaves. The mist refracts light, which makes the haze look blue at a distance. The work invites viewers to dwell within the presence that could only embrace a fraction of nature. The trees encountered during bush walks too stimulated the artist to create sculptures of a fictional species of trees that appear almost like satellites. While the paintings reflect a form of historical experience through the remanent of trees that were aftermath of interventions and tribulations.
