ArtSingapore 2010 has outdone itself this year. With more than 50 participating galleries from cities including Jarkarta, London, New York, Seoul and not to forget Singapore. ArtSingapore 2010 brought together blue chips galleries into Singapore, showcasing their finest artworks.
The response to this year’s fair was so amazing as we were told that at the night before, all works were successfully auctioned off by Christie at the Gala dinner and Charity Auction. Simply a good sign that the economy is picking up and art is well supported in Singapore.
Organizer and Fair Director of ArtSingapore, Chen Shen Po said, “In the last the years, ArtSingapore has been evolving and innovating at the forefront of the art fairs in the world. The fair has attracted many international art collectors annually, and we continue to feature top artists, galleries as well as distinguished speakers during ART Conversations. For our 10th year, we are proud to have a strong line-up of galleries and activities to commemorate this milestone.”
With support of National Art Council, Singapore Tourism Board and Art Galleries Association, Singapore, the fair feature works from artists from galleries such as Arteria (Canada), Sundaram Tagore Gallery (USA), Semarang Gallery (Indonesia), Art Forum (Singapore), Other Critera (UK) and many more.
At the media preview held just a few hours before the VIPs and guests arrives, we had a chance to tour around the fair before it opens to the public this morning. A lovely docent from the Singapore Art Museum, Ms Beatrice Weber, kindly brought us around the fair, and gave us detailed backgrounds and stories of some of the amazing art works on display.
Also, not to forget, UOB is also participating at the fair, showcasing it’s 10 years of artworks by its past winners. Titled, The Best Of UOB. I had the chance to meet this years’ winner, Bai Tian Yuan and Erzan B Adam, 2001 winner of UOB Painting of the Year.
At The Artist’s Gallery, Singapore, we met the Director, Mr Philip Pang. The gallery showcases works mainly from senior master artists from Singapore and around the region who have been painting professionally for a few decades. At the fair, we had to privilege to meet Peter Liew (Malaysia), Ang Ah Tee (Singapore) and Hamidah Jahil, wife of the late artist, Mohammad Din Mohammad, aka Mohd Din Mohd (Singapore).
